UNSMIS provides coverage for treatments aimed at overcoming substance dependency and tobacco use. This includes both in-patient accommodation and treatment for alcohol and drug detoxication as well as stop-smoking treatments.

Members are entitled to a lifetime maximum of three treatments under this benefit, whether for detoxication or smoking cessation.

Detoxication treatments require prior authorization. Once approved by the Medical Adviser, these treatments are reimbursed at an 80% rate.

Stop-smoking treatments are not subject to prior authorization and are also covered at 80%.
