The United Nations Staff Mutual Insurance Society against Sickness and Accident (UNSMIS) provides health insurance coverage to staff members and retired former staff, as well as their families. It is a self-insured and self-administered multi-employer fund financed by joint contributions from both affiliated organizations and insured members—active staff and retirees alike.
