The UN Group Life Insurance Plan is an optional, unsubsidized group insurance benefit underwritten by The Hartford, managed by HLIS at UN Headquarters in New York, and administered by UNSMIS for UNOG staff members in Geneva. It is fully funded by participating staff through payroll deductions and provides financial protection to designated beneficiaries in the event of death from any cause, as well as additional coverage for accidental death or dismemberment. Enrolment within 60 days of hire is unconditional; applications after that require Evidence of Insurability and possible medical review. If you wish to enrol, please reach out to your HR Partner at your employing organization.
Participation is voluntary and may be terminated at any time, with no cash value upon withdrawal. Staff aged 55 or older with at least 10 years of participation may continue coverage after separation through After-Service Life Insurance (ASLI), which provides free but reduced coverage based on age.
