Surviving dependents may remain covered after the passing of the UN employee/retiree, provided that they were included in the coverage at the time of death of the staff member or former staff member and are eligible to receive a periodic benefit under the Regulations of UNJSPF or Appendix D of the UN Staff Rules, or both.

Surviving dependents may request enrolment in the After-Service Health Insurance (ASHI) plan in writing via unsmisaffiliations@un.org within 6 months from the date of death of the staff member or retiree.

A surviving child may remain covered until reaching the age of 30, provided that they are in full-time education or not in regular employment or married.

A surviving spouse may no longer remain covered upon remarriage.
